Insight: Editor's Pick: Android 17 Beta 3 comes with dedicated volume controls for AI assistants

Google’s newly released Android 17 Beta 3 update fixes a common problem with virtual assistants, like Gemini. They sometimes respond in a very loud voice, depending on your device’s media volume. But with the Android 17 Beta 3 update, there’ll be dedicated volume controls for AI assistants.

Right now, Android devices group the audio for AI assistants with your music and videos. Turning up the volume to watch any media also makes your AI assistant become louder. With the new Android 17 Beta 3 update, there are dedicated volume controls for the AI assistants in the form of a slider at the bottom of the sound menu.

You can select a sound level you’re comfortable with using the slider for spoken answers by AI assistants. Turning up the volume for your songs won’t affect the volume for AI helpers, which comes in handy when you’re on your headphones or earphones and using the assistant.

The feature is only available to people testing the Android 17 beta version, and is expected in the stable build. The separate volume slider will appear on users screens after the rollout in June. This amall adjustment makes voice commands more comfortable.
